Perfect for grades 1-5

Brilliant for parents who want to learn the basics of music to help students practise.

Description

Who is it for?

Music theory lessons are ideal for every budding musician no matter their age or ability level. They are also great for parents who perhaps want to know the basics of music to help their children practise, but without learning an instrument themselves.

Theory is very important to learn as well as playing instruments. It helps you analyse the music without worrying about the physical side of making the music happen. You will find the more you know about music means there’s more you need to know, so you can never know too much music theory!

These online theory lessons are designed for those who don’t have time to go out and have 1-2-1 lessons with a teacher. They’re also for those with busy schedules who are happy working under their own steam.

How they work?

Order either a four or an eight week groups of lessons.

Four weeks lessons: £40

Eight weeks lessons: £72

If you pay for eight weeks you will receive a 10% discount on the lesson prices.

You can sign up and stop the theory lessons whenever you like – but any lesson fees paid are non-refundable. Each month you have the option to either carry on having more lessons or stop. You will receive the next batch of theory worksheets as soon as you’ve paid for the next block of lessons.

Each week you will receive worksheets over the course of the week, that you can work through in your own time and simply scan in (or take a photo using your phone / camera) and email back to us. You work will be marked and feedback will be given along each stage of the way. You will also receive handy hints and information for you to keep for as long as you wish. There will also be pop quizzes every now and then to see how you are progressing.

The lessons can be used alongside the ABRSM / Trinity / Victoria College of Music theory books – so these will give you extra hints and tips and worksheets to work from.

As well as this you will be given regular email based support and question answering time too! So you won’t be working on your own – I’ll be here to help every step of the way!

What will I get?

You will receive weekly worksheets, handy fact files, pop quizzes, some mp3 based activities and friendly email advice from a professional and experienced music teacher.

We know each student is different, so each music theory lesson will be adapted to your needs. If there’s one element that you find difficult for whatever reason we will work together to find the best way for you to understand it.

As you progress through the course you will be advised when would be the best time to think about entering for a music theory exam if this is what you wish to do.

Rachael Forsyth has been teaching music theory for the last 8 years and has a 100% pass rate for both practical and theory exams. She is a full time woodwind and piano tutor and teaching both classical and jazz music.

What level is it aimed at?

Online theory lessons are ideal for grades I-V. We might be able to offer online lessons for the higher grades, but you will need to drop us a line to discuss this as there is a lot involved in these higher exams.

They will run alongside the information within the schools of music exams – ABRSM / Trinity / Victoria College of Music so you could sit the exams if you want to, or you can keep learning anyway!

These lessons are also great for parents who want to learn the basics of reading music and counting without needing to learn an instrument – so you can help your children with their practise too.

What do I need?

Not much really! Access to the internet is obviously pretty vital part of an online course. You will need to be able to download pdf’s from your email account and print them off. They are not interactive worksheets so you will then obviously need a pen or pencil – pencil is better in case you make any mistakes. But then you could always go crazy with some coloured pens and highlighters and maybe a folder to keep it all in? It’s your call!

You will also need to be able to scan your answer sheets in so we can mark them to let you know how you did. If you don’t have access to a scanner you could always capture the picture using your phone camera to email to us that way instead.

We would advise also picking a copy of the graded theory book for the level and exam board you’d like to sit with if you’re thinking about doing an exam – this is purely to get used to the way they will ask the questions, as each exam board with phrase the questions slightly differently.

Not essential, but quite handy, would be a Music Theory text book – something like the Rudiments of Music of the ABRSMetc – as this would be a handy quick reference if you get stuck. If you want further book ideas – again just drop us a line!

Why do I need to print them?

I know environmentally it’s not good to be printing lots of pages, but we believe that students learn better away from the temptations on the internet. Also by writing it down rather than typing you are making a physical connection with the answer so you will be more likely to remember it.

So print them off, work on them and email them back to see how you got on!

Anything else I need to know?

Not really – but if you do have any questions please feel free to drop us a line to ask
